New Fire Posts

Photo

There is an ongoing effort to reduce the number of fires on Mitcham Common. Working in partnership with the local Fire Brigades and Safer Neighbourhoods Police team, Mitcham Common Conservators are asking walkers on the Common for their help in tackling this problem. There is now a fire post scheme in operation on the Common. Most of the horse trail signs will have a number painted on them as illustrated in the photo. If a fire is spotted, then quoting the number of the nearest fire post to the fire brigade when calling them, will aid them in locating where about the fire is on the Common.

If you see anyone starting a fire, please contact your local Safer Neighbourhood Police team on 02086493604 or Mitcham Fire Station on 02085551200 (ext 84553), and 999.

Mill Green

Mill Green

Visitors will have noticed a change in grassland management on Mill Green this year. On two areas of the Green, the mowing regime has been relaxed so that grass will be maintained as a meadow throughout the spring and summer and will not now be mown until the autumn. This enhancement will benefit both plants and insects by providing a more suitable habitat for them to utilise.

New benches to watch out for

Recently 10 benches have been installed around the Common. These have been kindly donated by the 'Friends of Mitcham Common', 'Pollards Hill Baptist Church' and the 'Metropolitan Gardens Association'.
